CAREER  MILESTONES

1971  Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from T.U. Vienna. Career start at the ESSO Ingolstadt Refinery, Germany,  in Process  Design, later in Operation Optimisation

1976   Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer at the ESSO Hamburg Refinery, Germany, later with Exxon Engineering in New Jersey, USA   

1978  APC Engineer and later APC Manager at Ingolstadt, Germany   

1983  Senior APC Engineer at Exxon Engineering in New Jersey, USA; work on plant–wide Real Time Optimisation, corporate-wide control training responsibility, design of a PC simulation system for training - used world-wide for many years    

1986  CIM Advisor at Exxon Chemical regional headquarter in Brussels, Belgium:  Technology management, SQA / SPC, manufacturing computing, production planning tools….

1992  Resignation from Exxon and foundation of ACT GmbH in Austria.

 

            MAJOR  ACHIEVEMENTS

*   Setting a world-wide standard in 1978 with an LP based Fluid Cat Cracker (FCC) control scheme for many years

*   Extensive experience in operations and process control economics and in management   

*   Comprehensive experience in development and use of computer simulations

*   Extensive international experience in technical training and also management seminars

*   Contributions to Total Quality Management (TQM) and Statistical Quality Assurance

*   Development of TOPAS, winning the prestigious Editors' Choice Award (Control Engineering magazine)

*   Development of a Model Based Predictive Controller AMC – implemented in various DCS

*   Development of a series of process control tutorials

*   Development of a model-based batch reactor control scheme (feedback & feedforward) - in one single day!

 

OTHER  ACTIVITIES                                  

*   Co-author of “Handboek Procesautomatie” published by Kluwer-Wolters (in Dutch)

*   Many publications in German, Benelux, US and international magazines. Regular articles in English, Dutch and German, several translated into Chinese and Russian

*   Invited speaker at the IEEE London, the University of Cambridge, the University of Barcelona, the E.C. IT conference, the European Control Conference ECC99, Keynote Speaker at FoodSim 2002 in Cork

*   Evaluator of project proposals and reviewer of numerous projects for the European Commission in manufacturing, e-commerce, virtual enterprises, knowledge management, e-learning…        

*   Former Vice-Chairman of the Honeywell TDC 3000 User Group

*   Secretary General of ESPRIT workgroup on Model Based Predictive Control (CIDIC)

*   Former member of IFAC Working Groups on Chemical Process Control and on Education in Process Control

*   Former member of the User Committee of research projects, T.U. Delft, Holland
